Q&A PART

Q1  How are stones classified?

A1: The American Society for Testing and Materials divides natural facing stones into six categories: Granite, Marble, Limestone, Quartz-based, Slate and other stones.

Q2  What are natural decorative stone varieties named after?

A2: The natural decorative stones are named according to the color, grain characteristics, and place of origin, which more intuitively and vividly reflect the decorative and natural nature of the material.

Therefore, the names of natural decorative stones are quite charming, such as ink fun, golden spider, etc., which have a deep meaning.

Q3  What is artificial stone?

A3: Artificial stone is made of non-natural mixture, such as resin, cement, glass beads, aluminum stone powder, etc. plus gravel binder.

It is generally made by mixing unsaturated polyester resin with fillers and pigments, adding an initiator, and going through certain processing procedures.

Q4  What is the difference between quartz stone and quartzite?

A4: Quartz stone is the abbreviation of artificial stone manufacturers for their products. Because the main component of artificial stone-quartz content is as high as 93%, it is called quartz stone.

Quartzite is a natural mineral sedimentary rock, a metamorphic rock formed by regional metamorphism or thermal metamorphism of quartz sandstone or siliceous rock. In short, quartz stone is man-made stone, and quartzite is natural mineral stone.

Q5  What is the difference between artificial stone and natural stone?

A5: (1) Artificial stone can produce various patterns artificially, while natural stone has rich and natural patterns.

      (2) In addition to artificial granite, the reverse side of other artificial stones generally have mold patterns.
Q6  What is the grade standard of “Mohs hardness” in the stone inspection report?

A6: Mohs hardness is a set of standards for determining the relative hardness of minerals. Relatively divided into 10 grades, from small to large: 1-talc; 2-gypsum; 3-calcite; 4-dongshi; 5-apatite; 6-orthoclase; 7-quartz; 8-topaz ; 9-corundum; 10-diamond.

Q7  What kinds of surface treatment processes are there for stone?

A7: Generally, there are glossy surface, matte surface, fire surface, lychee surface, antique surface, mushroom surface, natural surface, brushed surface, sandblasting surface, pickling surface, etc.

Q8  How long is the lifespan of stone?

A8: The lifespan of natural stone is very long. The general lifespan of dry-hanging stone granite is about 200 years, marble is about 100 years, and slate is about 150 years. These all refer to the lifespan outdoors, and the lifespan indoors is longer, many in Italy Churches made of stone have been around for thousands of years, and they are still very beautiful.

Q9  Why can’t provide samples for some characteristic stone varieties?

A9: The texture of the characteristic stone is unique, and the entire layout changes greatly. If you take a small part of it as a small stone sample, it cannot represent the actual effect of the entire large slab. Therefore, it is generally recommended to ask for a high-definition large slab picture to check the actual full-page effect.
